re.grocery

Overview
re.grocery is a project I worked on with 3 other teammates during NYU's hackathon (HackNYU 2020). Our project won 3rd place under the Sustainability track and 1st place under the Contrary Captial's Most Viable Startup track. My role on the team was to help lead both UX/UI design and business development. Problem
In New York City, 3.9 million tonnes of food is wasted every year, yet 3 out of every 10 New Yorkers, are food insecure. When looking deeper into the food waste issue, grocery stores were found to be one of the bigger culprits as $48 billion dollars of food is wasted by grocery stores in the US every year. The average grocery store in the US also has an average operating profit margin of 1.6%.
Solution
As such, to help address food waste, make groceries more affordable, and help grocery stores improve their profit margins, we created re.grocery, a platform that connect grocery stores and users to facilitate the redistribution of food past their sell-by date at a discounted price.
